We are now in the position of spending much more on petrol for the mower and garden tools than we do on diesel for two vehicles. My annual electricity bill is second only to what we spend on food so I'm unlikely to want an electric car even as a gift.

Anyone know where I can get a solar powered robot mower suitable for about two acres?
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Rewild it, it's all the rage! Just cut an undulating path for an interestibg perambulation! We've saved loads on fuel by not cutting our various grassy areas this year, and the abundance of insects look most appreciative! 8-)

What do you do at the end of the season? Do you graze it to keep it down - or otherwise how do you prevent brambles etc taking over?

A very good point, if I owned the fields I walk in with Jules, that is exactly what I would do. It gets cut and harvested by a farmer once a year but I notice the low regrowth of brambles each time.

Just strimmed under the orchard. Didn't mow it at all this year, as no fruit. Animals will graze down the other orchard. Strimmed where necessary, and bramble/bracken bashing as I feel fit. Had lots of blackberries though! 8-)

Two fields were cut for hay. Other two fields were topped by neighbour who uses it for his horses.

Having driven 350k in the last couple of days looking for a C3, finally got one in Bergerac, have always in my life negotiated prices but this time no one would at all.
All of the talk on here about them being more costly here than the uk, I spent a number of minutes looking at uk prices for the same car this afternoon, sunday, just out if interest, same age, mileage, condition.
At todays exchange rate all were about the same in uk.
Unlike fuel, if you could get it there.
