Here, it was just above freezing. And between occasional snow showers, something could be seen in the distance: a flying saucer had just landed. The roof of the Johan Cruyff Arena, home stadium of football club Ajax. Above us, only sky. Far below us, no ice, but lots of water. Here, no cows, horses or donkeys in le grand pré to chat with. Of course, I could dash downstairs to have a chat with a few people who are busy working, but I decide not to. Time for a second cup of coffee.

Interesting detail. It is the Derova from Belgium. This inland vessel was launched in China in 2024. Built by Nantong Changqingsha Shipyard Co Ltd, Rugao, China and completed by Breko shipyards in Papendrecht. Building a 2CV stretch is relatively easy compared with stretching a ship. This Derova, clean as a dream machine, almost a brandnew Cadillac....

It's going to be another cold night here. -4C at the moment, and the wind, although not strong, is absolutely bitter. We have had colder weather during the years we have lived here but I can't remember such a prolonged period of very low temperatures.
-5C this morning and I expect when I wake up tomorrow I am sure it will be colder.

Just about to do the nightly rounds - cat trays, topping up water and food dishes, ensuring those that need to be in are indeed in - not so much an issue with current weather which is just above minus 10 at the moment. No wind thank goodness.

Minus 10 here with EDF red day. Almost as cold as when we first arrived in France some years ago. Not as cold as Norway when I worked out in minus 18 and layed off in a storm with a wind chill down to minus 60. One has to dress in layers and keep dry. A log fire seemed to be warmer than central heating while sleeping on reindeer skins in a Sami wigwam (day out jolly from work).

Well it was -8C at 07h and now at just after 08h it's -9C. Getting through the wood and will have to get out and bring more in!

Yep, -8 this morning. Gone through more wood than normal this Winter.
