Just shy of -10C this morning and mid-day it started snowing. Maybe a couple of centimetres but still coming.

Yes, here too. Now I see this on the Meteo France page: "Orages avec neige" This morning it said light snow up until 17h00 today.

What is an Orages with snow ?

Just below freezing and snow showers. A small uninhabtated island, not mine, not in the sun but covered with a thin layer of snow. This "Compass Island" was used as a calibration point for compasses before a major trip. It's quite slippery there on deck, only a few seagulls venture there.

We were threatened with snow, the school buses for today were cancelled, but it was warmer this morning than previous days and whilst the snow didn’t fall we have had rain since 13h for a couple of hours.
If it freezes tonight then the roads will be difficult.

My brother took these photos in Limoges today. The first is when he arrived at the station at 09h10, and the second was at 14h50.

I have only experienced it once while still in the UK and I think it is rather rare.

Basically it is a snowstorm that then develops into a thunderstorm. Much like a conventional thunderstorm, the precipitation falls rather heavily for a minute or two after each clap of thunder but as snow rather than rain or hale.

Blessed rain washed all the white stuff away overnight, despite the orange alert. Almost tropical this morning!

Rain here too so after a white garden on going to bed last night, today it's rain and a slushy mess. At least no minus on the weather station as it's now a balmy 3C :D
