The people of Makerfield won’t have an MP soon after one was elected
There’s a school of thought here in the UK that this election was about getting Stamer out and Burnham in rather than parties. It will be interesting to see the results of the next few by elections

Farage speaks very highly of Putin and was seen following Trump during his presidential campaign. Yet Farage still has a strong following among the racists.

Take a good hard look at the choices available should another general election take place, an absolute shower of rubbish, all there to feather their own nests. Politics used to be a vocation, you didn't become a politician to earn a living, admittedly you got paid, now it's a career, and one providing a lucrative reimbursement, as well as access to all sorts of fiddles, not only monetary ones.

Its a lot like football. People support their team, no matter how rubbish they are.

During covid, I watched both Macron and Boris giving important anouncements regarding the situation, even with my french I could follow and understand about 90% of Macrons announcements, and probably understood about 60% of what Boris was talking about.

Hughniqie, I don't remember polittics ever being a vocaqtion - possible exception: the Beast of Bolsover, who didn't retire when he swore he would and a young MP who withdrew after fiunding the business too dirty.
In the past, women were often excluded by the local select-ion commtiees (their place was at the kitchen sink) and the commitees favoiured white males who are "one of us", i.e., Eton and the Guards. Parliament was a gateway to company directorships, public or private. I've known a few MPs personll, all lawyers, cut-glass accents, Savile Row suits, the works. One became a senior cabinet member with whom I'd had a long chat at a wedding of a mutual friend about his wife's impminent blindness. He was subsequently elected, but was booted out after details of his dodgy mistress and notorious sex life hit the headlines. I could quote chapter and verse on others but I'm too hot. Just don't talk about "vocation" and the "good old days."
