I'm so sorry to hear your sad news, Angela and apologies for not writing before but I was away.
Losing your partner is never easy and everyone reacts differently. Please feel you can talk freely in here - some of us here have been through it (even though I lost my first husband many years ago, I will never forget how I felt).

Everything happens so quickly in France and it can feel a bit of a whirlwind ... Do things when you are ready in your own time. You may even find that thinking about a move gives you something to focus on. Demi might be a good person to talk to.

Hello again,

Quite a lot has happened since my last post, hence the long gap.
After a little more than a year in the Ehpad, and after deteriorating slowly, John died on July 19th.
Friends and family made it to Pau for the funeral. Then it was forms, forms and more forms.

After thinking hard about my future and with the input of my four children, I have decided to move back to the Netherlands, where we lived for 27 years before retirement. I am in the process of buying a flat in the Hague, five minutes from my youngest daughter, and an hour’s drive from my son. With Amsterdam airport not far away I’ll also be easier to reach from London and Gothenburg.

Sorry for the sad news of the death of your OH, even if it was slowly inevitable.

Best wishes for your future, close to family back in the Netherlands.

I moved to France from UK a year after my husband died in order to be closer to family. Nearly 5 years on & I have no regrets & have made a lot of new friends, taken up many activities & enjoy looking after the grandchildren.

Best of luck & do keep in touch, it would be good to hear how it all goes.
