The only reason we went for air to air, we could keep the wood burner, just in case. ;) :D
Butting in, no they don't at least not all. We have an old wood burning stove kept from way back and in good condition, have a new insert to burn pellets and are going to install it in our conservatory now being done out of old porcheries, same with the rayburn just need a perferated plate in the bottom.
Ok a specialist dedicated stove would need power.
Going back to the rayburn, it will heat up the cyclinder plus a heatsink rad in a bathroom along with the underfloor heating in the lounge ( when Ive done it) as that just needs continuous low water heat not like radiators.
It will also need electricity for the pump. Basic pellet burners don't need power, your stove can burn pellets but you need a basket, I made my own 10+ years ago, you will still need to feed the fire continuously, the hopper type will still need a few bags per day put in, and need a power supply, the only ones, if you have the space, to self fill are the large separate hopper types which will hold 1tonne or more of pellets, there are all different types in between.

Looks like we set for a good few days of perfect Autumn weather. Woohoo! This is my favourite time of year (apart from the ruddy harvest mites). The smells and colours of Autumn - bring it on! :D

Two good days after the heavy rain and with all of the harvesting done all about, have managed to burn up most of the years cutting back, that which wouldn't go through the broyer.
Weather still stays beautifuly autumnal, superb for the normal autumn clearing up of the garden, the last three nights have been down to 6c though just to remind us the year is passing.

Heavy frost this morning and it's not very warm. Weird goings on in the garden though, forsythia is flowering and my clematis which flowered during the spring and summer had died back as usual, but has now decided to flower again. Very odd.

At what temperature do you decide it's too cold? I wouldn't have more than dipped my toe since it stopped being around 20.

Haven't reached that point yet Veem, 11 this morning. It is strange but as I've watched the temp drop each day I notice the air temp more than the water, the initial descent feels no different to when it was over 20. The only difference, and for this I might cut down from 4 lengths to 2, is the 'brain freeze' after the 3rd length. This is a term told to me when I found that, although I wasn't generally cold, I got a severe pain across the forehead. Once back at the exit with my head out of the water it disappeared within about 3 seconds. I intend to continue twice a day for as long as I am refreshed by it......or killed by it. But seriously it is the most wonderful feeling when I come out, not cold at all, in fact I spend several minutes afterwards clearing leaves from the surface in the morning and then again in the evening plus, on that occasion several more minutes dredging dead leaves from the bottom. I am not seeking disciples though, I think that would be a lost cause.
