So why was it Papibryn not Papibryan?

To make it easier for grandchildren, ours being a second marriage, confusing for little ones with more than usual grandparents.
Its also why mami is called so.
Papi- grandad in french.
Mami-grandmum in French
At least around here,
its of Spanish origins.
