Using credit card
Has anyone any experience of using a UK credit card, registered at my French address, in the USA. Every time I come to finish the transaction it refuses and tells me I need a US address for it to go ahead. Seems a bit strange.

Using credit card
Many many years ago we tried to buy some language software from the states using a french registered uk credit card. The processing company ( I'm sorry I can't remember the name ) frankly refused to accept the card. I have the same problem with PayPal. French card for sterling purchase OK, UK card not accepted.

I have only used the card there once before and that was ages ago, that time it was for a lawnmower part, which once paid for, notification was received that it was not in stock and that they didn't know when it would be, I can remember the nonsense of crediting the amount back my account as the rate of exchange had dropped and I ended up worse off. This time it is for a background check, I have tried 3 companies now and each one is a no go, don't know if they have moved the goalposts or if it is only open to USA residents like a Data Protection Act thing

Some of the credit checking, verification companies have some very strange operating processes.
I do irregular business with a UK store, and their card purchases are verified through a company independent of the banks. [I bet to thought it was just the banks authorising or not the card purchase.] Anyway, their system* would not accept any of our cards - 2 x UK, 1 x German, 1 x French. I suspect it is because our address has an accented character in it and this is being transposed through some mapping failure to something else.
Anyway, I now have to pre-order by email asking for a delivered to France cost. They then send the price. I confirm the process and send them a uK cheque.
Bl00dy palaver.
* Braintree if anyone is interested.

Using credit card
A serious nuisance given the increasing need to buy internationally.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.
