We don't eat a lot of pizzas but found those to be to our taste. Does anyone else sell them I wonder?
Dr Oetker pizzas were my pizza of choice when I lived in Germany and when I moved to France I was pleased to see that not only were they sold here but that they were significantly cheaper here too. They’re now a bit harder to find but my local Intermarché sells them. The bad news is they have gone up in price. Last autumn my normal mozzarella pizzas were a little over €2, they’re now almost €3. In between there was a 25% reduction on your next buy but that ended on 31/12/2022. I can’t really complain, even now they’re not that much more expensive than they were in Germany 10 years ago.
I live between two SuperUs. The nearest one is about 5km from me and the other about 10km. The nearer one is a fairly boring supermarket which I use perhaps once a month as it’s next to Lidl so convenient for things Lidl doesn’t sell. The other is brilliant. I’ve never understood how two shops from the same brand, theoretically selling the same goods can be so different. In fact neither is my first choice supermarket, the nearest Leclerc is better in every way possible but a longer drive from my house.

We like Dr Oetker pizzas too and can find them in our small local Intermarché which was dull and had limited choice but improved dramatically during lockdown (lovely staff though). Our first choice is Super U about 9 kms from here. We rarely go to the bigger hyper or supermarkets and prefer Carrefour to Leclerc.

There has been a dramatic increase in prices though, not limited to SuperU. I find you have to be vigilant with their specials as several times the so called discounts have not been applied. Good offer last week, Fireball, nearest I can find to Drambuie, 4€ a bottle off.

I have no answer to which supermarket brand is the best overall other than I much prefer Lidl to Aldi but use both. In my nearest town there is the SuperU and an Intermarché and I prefer the Intermarché although other SuperU slightly further away is better still. If I double the distance as I often do there is a better Lidl a really bad Intermarché and my favourite local supermarket, Leclerc. I often visit four larger towns an hour or so away. To the north Auchan is my first choice, to the south it’s Casino, over in the east it’s another win for Leclerc and in the far west it’s Carrefour. There are both a Leclerc and SuperU there but they are both awful. There’s not one brand that allows me to buy everything I need under one roof. 🙂
